Step-by-step mentality

 

It sounds cliché, but the only way to achieve anything in life is "step-by-step". Such an approach helps with discipline during training, especially in the cold Winter months - where most of the training happens - as well as during the actual event, where mind games will be with you from start to finish.

This is not as simple as "positive thinking", because that only works until a certain extent. Sport psychology is a science in itself and topics like intrinsic motivation, communication, self-confidence, realistic goal setting, visualization, etc. are all important parts of training and competing, whatever your goal is.
