We often think that signing up for a race and/or hiring a coach is expensive... until you realize what's needed in order to take part in a Triathlon.

What will you need?

To get started, you don’t need every gadget on the market — here are the essentials.

  • Sports watch - plenty of affordable options available, you don't need the most expensive model.
  • Wetsuit & tri-suit - essential for open-water swims and race comfort.
  • Swimming access - pool training and, later in the season, open water.
  • Road bike & gear - helmet, clothing, shoes, and small repair kit.
  • Indoor trainer (optional) - great for winter training, works well with Zwift.
  • Running shoes - chosen for comfort and durability.
  • Basic nutrition - gels, sodium, protein shakes, etc.
